Description

Necessity is the mother of invention! Couldn't find the perfect WRITE AWAY resource that would work for my students, so created it!

Want to know how to improve your students' writing skills? Write, Write, Write… That's what's really going to have an impact on them:, writing and practicing some more... And if it's fun too? That's a win, win situation!

There are currently 3 levels available. Starting at level A (2nd-3rd grade) and increasing to level C (5th-6th grade) but most prompts would work for most grades ranging between 2nd-6th grade so when you find your students enjoying it THAT much, just look out for the bundle of all three levels to save some $.

Each WRITE AWAY booklet contains:

Text Prompts=pre-assigned topics.

Picture Prompts=Pictures of scenarios where students are welcome to create their own little story according to the given picture. They can refer to the 'worthy words' on the side of each picture prompt to help them get started.

The last five pages have blank paragraphs where students can come up with their own topics they would like to write about or teachers can give subject related questions after a lesson.

Ex. What would you take along, if you were to join Columbus on his journey?

After a literature story: How would you handle the situation, if you were this or that character?

Seasonal questions - How & where they spend holidays...

Write Away can be handed out as a booklet or per sheet.

Teachers can designate a few minutes every day/Twice a week for 'Write Away' or students can do it on their own time, on their own pace.

Ex. After they are done with an assignment...

After recess from the bell until the teacher comes into class...

If students do it on their own time, teachers can have random kids come up and read a random 'write away' to the class occasionally.

it is also a great time filler when you find yourself with 5-10 extra minutes in the classroom!

Write Away can be done as a homework assignment if necessary.

It can be done in a motivational way too, ex. students earn points per good, correctly written writing & then they are rewarded per amount of points. (This worked wonderfully in my classroom)

Toward the end of the school year, when most students have completed their booklet, the best Write Away or two from each student can be selected, retyped and then handed out to the class. they will love reading their classmates thoughts!

Whichever way you do it, hopefully your students will enjoy it and it will have the right end result:

Improve your students writing skills!

Good luck!
