◾ Reader Response Questions: The reader response questions are divided up by chapters. Each chapter includes open-ended and short-answer comprehension questions with an answer key. This response packet can be used for whole-group discussion or instruction, but it works great in literature circles, to hold group members accountable for reading and discussing the text. It can also be used as a homework assignment, for small group instruction, book clubs, etc.
Graphic Organizers: character Analysis, text-to-text connections, compare and contrast, character change, and sensory language.

◾ Vocabulary Study: This vocabulary study provides vocabulary activities and quizzes for words that appear in the novel.

◾ Figurative Language Study: The figurative language study provides an abundance of figurative language examples from the novel that students can analyze. This resource includes figurative language posters (with definitions, why authors use them, examples, & non-examples) for simile, metaphor, personification, idiom, and hyperbole. Figurative language practice sheets are also included. Students read short passages from the novel that contain figurative language. Then, underline the figurative language used, determine the meaning, and explain why the author included it.

◾ Theme Study: This resource includes student handouts for four different themes from the novel. Each handout includes a brief description of the theme and explains how the theme connects to the novel. Questions are also included to help guide students in analyzing their theme.

◾ Chapter Quizzes: Includes 3 quizzes for chapter sections 1"10, 11"20, and 21"30. This resource assesses the author's craft, figurative language, elements of plot, symbolism, theme, foreshadowing, character development, drawing conclusions, inferencing, text evidence, literary devices, and more. These three quizzes are multiple-choice tests with higher-level questions and include answer keys.

◾ Essay Questions: This includes 13 essay questions on lined paper.

◾ S.T.E.A.M. Activities: The S.T.E.A.M.-based activities in this product concentrate on the subjects of math, science, engineering, and the arts. Students will discover the relationship between the Fibonacci series and fractal spirals as well as their existence in nature. Students will also plot fractal spirals, write a fictional story to describe a natural occurrence, and make an artistic cube with pictures of natural objects that follow the Fibonacci number sequence. Additionally, students will learn about artists who incorporate debris from natural disasters into their artwork and then use recycled or discarded materials to make their own masterpiece. Students will also conduct research on a chosen natural disaster's effects and use art to communicate what they discover and its impact on people, the environment, and other living things. Furthermore, students will make connections between ideas like the golden ratio, fractal spirals, the Fibonacci number sequence, and Pi as they build a Pi skyline. They will design and build a mock levee, a hurricane-resistant building, and an anemometer to gauge wind speeds.
