Often, fundraisers will be needed to make up the gap between funds from regular sources and the funds needed to conduct desired activities any time school is in session.

In many cases, school budgeting is so tight that fundraisers are an absolute must, or programs like sports, music, and fine arts cannot be carried out. It’s no exaggeration to say that many essential programs might have to be trimmed from school budgets without school spirit fundraisers.

School spirit fundraisers are always lots of fun for participants because it involves getting everyone emotional about supporting the school, sometimes in advance of a competition with a traditional rival, or sometimes, so a given club at school will have the funding to participate in a contest or other event. Community members realize that supporting the school supports their children’s future, so getting people on board with school spirit fundraisers is an easy sell.

Raise money for school spirit activities

Here are some of the most fun ideas you can do to raise money for school spirit activities.

Cheer sticks

Cheer sticks are inflatable noisemakers that have long been a favorite of school spirit fundraising campaigns. Of course, they make lots of noise, making them ideal for parades, pep rallies, and game days. Since they are so noisy, they’re a perfect choice for creating tons of noise that will help to cheer your hometown heroes on to victory. You can get reusable and re-inflatable cheer sticks, either made blank, with standardized imprints or with custom imprints identifying your school or your team.

You can also have them prepared with your school colors and sell them in your school store or at concession stands that you set up on the grounds. Everyone will want one or more of these when attending a big athletic contest, especially against a rival.

School beads

Beads and necklaces are a great way to show support for any school team, whether athletic or academic. They’re also straightforward to sell, so you can generally have a very successful fundraiser when offering these to student body members and parents. Bead necklaces have become extremely popular, so you should probably stock up on as many different types and styles as you can, and if you can get them in school colors, that would be so much better. These can be sold in the school store, during lunch periods, at concession stands, and even along a parade route. Some of the bead possibilities you might want to offer to the student body and parents are beads with medallions, light-up beads, glow beads, football-shaped beads, paw-shaped beads, and of course, standard round beads.

Pom-poms and shakers

These have always been traditional school spirit items, and they often appear at the top of the list for school fundraisers around the country. Fans enjoy shaking their school spirit out during pep rallies and on game days with these colorful shakers that feature your school colors. You will be able to get shakers comprised of either one or two-color streamers, and the handles can be custom printed with either your team name or your school name.

Alternatively, you could have local business names printed on the handles of your pom-poms and shakers in exchange for a contribution from those local businesses to your fundraising campaign. This is a great way to get everyone involved in demonstrating their school spirit, and it’ll end up with a good amount of money raised for school projects.

Temporary tattoos

Another trendy school spirit fundraising idea is temporary tattoos, stickers that can be applied almost anywhere on the body but are generally limited to visible areas. Some of the most popular spots for applying temporary tattoos are on the hands, arms, and face, where everyone can see your school spirit out in the open. This is a great idea when you have an upcoming pep rally, a homecoming parade, or any other event involving major school spirit.

You can sell temporary tattoo stickers from your school store or from concession stands that are temporarily erected. This is a good idea for a year-round fundraiser, but you’ll probably have much more success selling them right before an upcoming special event for the school. They’re also great for use during sports seasons at the school when your team might face many of its traditional rivals.

Custom T-shirts

Custom T-shirts have proven to be the single most popular school spirit fundraising idea of all time, and they are still enormously popular today. Nearly 90% of all high schools surveyed said that their most popular fundraising idea for school spirit was these custom T-shirts. It’s not hard to understand why since they’re stylish and comfortable, they will feature your school name and your mascot. They also make for a lasting keepsake of your high school days and are a great way to demonstrate school spirit.

When you have your custom T-shirts printed up in bulk, you’ll always get a good discount, and then you can offer them for sale at a slightly higher price to earn serious money for your fundraising campaign. It should be no problem keeping your custom T-shirts docked at the school store or shipped before a special event when you can sell them. It’s no exaggeration to say that selling custom T-shirts to generate school spirit for your school can be a gold mine in terms of fundraising.
