School sports teams are important for many reasons.

Not only do they promote physical health, but they can benefit emotional and mental health, too. They are effective in helping children to socialize and to engage in a hobby that they are passionate about.

For a sports team to flourish, sufficient funding is required. This allows for appropriate equipment, frequent use of a spacious location, and travel for trips and games away. This is to name only a few, as many other expenses can accumulate during sporting seasons.

Fundraising is your best option if your school’s sports team requires funds to ensure everyone can keep doing what they love. It may be a bit of hard work, but with an enthusiastic team effort, there’s no reason you can’t achieve it! Below you can see some ways your school can raise money for its sports teams to help you get all the resources you deserve.

Start a shoe drive

Shoe drives are becoming increasingly popular in the US as a way for community groups and schools to raise money. Likely, the people at your school can collectively bring together many unwanted shoes. If you find you have quickly outgrown your shoes, this is a great way to declutter and put them to better use.

Once you have your team of fundraising volunteers and have found a partner charity or facilitator, it’s time to collect shoes! Often you have to collect a certain amount for donation, so it’s worth ensuring you are fully aware of the details and instructions from your chosen facilitator. Once donated, you should receive a cheque for sports team funding.

Conduct a quiz night

Everybody loves a quiz night. Put the fun into fundraising and host a quiz night for everyone to enjoy. First, find a location happy to host the event, then get started on organizing. Make sure you plan this properly, so your quiz night runs as smoothly as possible. To raise funds, you could get all participants to pay an entry fee and maybe go around with a bucket during a break to see if anyone feels extra generous to help your school sports teams out.

Sponsored challenges

You can get inventive with this one. You may want to conduct something related to your sports team’s activities, such as how many hoops you can throw in one minute, goals scored $1 for every lap run, and so on. Or, it can be something unrelated to sports and be incredibly silly that will get as many people involved as possible. The more people you can engage with your sponsored challenge, the better!

Potluck fundraiser

This American tradition is a great way of getting people together and ensuring everyone has a satisfying meal with plenty of options. When organizing the potluck, think about the kind of theme you want. Do you want it to be a three-course meal event, Mexican food, Spanish cuisine, or just a random supply of homemade goodies?

Once you have decided what everyone will be bringing to the potluck, you can charge guests per dish, make it like a bake sale so people can buy what they want in the quantities they want, or you could ask for people to pay for their tickets to the event where they can eat as much as they like on attending.

Car wash

A car wash for a good cause never goes amiss. On matchday, fundraising team members could host a car wash for all the families and friends who come to watch or play. For any location where many cars go, superstores, for example, are great for setting up a car wash stall – make sure you have permission first!
