It’s challenging to stay positive, but it is possible to learn habits that can help control your inner emotions and deflect negativity.

Some say it’s about mind control – shut out the negative – avoid the situation, and you’ll remain positive. Although the thought holds a piece of the solution to remaining positive, there’s more to accomplish in staying positive.

For example, school is where students, parents, teachers, and staff come together daily, bringing parts of their personal experiences, feelings, and attitudes. Mix it all up and have an environment filled with positive and negative energies. As teachers, you’re immersed in a world filled with opinions, challenges, and achievements accompanied by positive experiences and negative frustrations.

Not all negativity is terrible. Sometimes it’s a wake-up call for change. Teachers face the challenge each year of preparing lessons to motivate students to reach their full potential. Students deal with the frustrations of studying, comprehending new topics, and passing tests without feeling foolish. Let’s not forget parents who strive to provide a safe environment for kids and feel like failures when students struggle.

By following our beliefs, we can decide and manage the opportunity to create positive surroundings. Don’t let negativity affect the present – those emotions live in your mind. Learn to let go of negative thoughts and feelings by concentrating on what’s good and moving forward. In an instance, you will notice that the negativity diminishes, and the world looks a lot brighter.

Keeping positive energy alive

If an associate has a bad day, offer help if you can make a difference. If you can’t, know when to remove yourself from the setting. If the negative was directed at you, the long-lasting solution is not to take it personally when someone disagrees with your opinion or criticizes your behavior. Try to find the positives and put yourself in an environment you love:

  • Teachers love their kids and head to the classroom.
  • Be supportive of others.
  • Talk with colleagues who motivate you to think about new approaches.

Keep it positive; negativity only breeds dissatisfaction and clutters the mind. The goal is to find what fuels the positive in you, not what triggers or powers up the negative.

Finding the strength to endure

Spend more time with positive people – it’s contagious. Surround yourself with people you admire and people who have a positive impact on how you respond to life’s challenges. Most of the time, negative projections are an individual’s perception of their reality – self-reflection – not yours. Feel good about yourself – it’s mentally healthy and emotionally positive:

  • Pick your battles carefully.
  • Don’t get sucked into an issue that has nothing to do with you.
  • Know the difference between a fight, an argument, and a solution.
  • Help others find alternative and positive answers to dealing with the problem.

When things get tough – smile. It’s amazing how quickly your mind can replace the negative with the positive. Keep training your brain to recognize the surge in your reactions or emotions when you encounter negativity. It will send re-reinforcements in the form of positive thoughts.

Pay it forward – get involved in change

Focus on solutions, not the problem. You can’t change the world overnight, but you can improve it by influencing how some view the situation. Problems and adverse reactions will always exist. One thing is certain, positive attitudes do have a tangible effect, and they will make a difference:

  • Be aware of what’s happening around you.
  • Tap into your mind’s protective positive space.
  • Listen, don’t judge, and show some concern with positive words and gestures.
  • Make a good difference. Don’t just make a change.

Ups and downs are part of a healthy life, and positive thoughts will get you through the worst conditions. It’s mind over matter. Learn to accept the negative, not cultivate it. Acknowledge what you can do to change it, but don’t let it ruin your day.
