Teach your students about the Indigenous Peoples (Native Americans) and the arrival of the Spanish in the late 1400s. It talks about Native American tribes like the Anasazi, Mississippians (who built Cahokia), Lenape Delaware People, Aztec Empire, and more.
Great for high school social studies teachers. The design is professional and minimal (i.e. no death by PPT). The content is in the notes, so if you are busy, you can simply open the slides and read the notes. Otherwise, you can make changes to the PPT if you deem it necessary. This presentation can be used in Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides.
This presentation goes over the origins of the Native Americans in the New World. It stresses that there were hundreds (if not more) tribes located throughout what is now known as North America. It also presents the arrival of the Spaniards and how it changed the world. Other topics presented include the Encomienda System, Columbian Exchange, and more. Throughout the presentation, there are plenty of discussion opportunities. For example, when discussing the treatment of Native Americans by the Spaniards, students can decide if they agree that the treatment was as bad as the history books say it was or was it indeed a "Black Legend" designed to humiliate the Spanish. They can also discuss of Christopher Columbus statues have a place in our society. Lots of great "thinking like a historian" opportunities.
This PPT follows standard American history textbooks.
How to use this product:
Present the PowerPoint (or Google Slides) in the classroom
Present the Google Slides via Zoom (if distance learning)
Present and discuss - while presenting, get students involved and create discussion questions that get students thinking like a historian
Print presentation with notes and let students read the slides
