Description

Get your students thinking with this electrical energy resources project! Presentation covers power grids, blackouts, generating electricity, energy consumption and energy resources. Discuss renewable and non-renewable energy sources, everything from coal and oil to wind, hydropower and solar resources. Student will then research their energy project to make decisions for how to best provide electricity for their city. Your students will have a new understanding and appreciation for the electricity they use on a daily basis!

Objective: The student knows that some of Earth's energy resources are available on a nearly perpetual basis, while others can be renewed over a relatively short period of time. Some energy resources, once depleted, are essentially nonrenewable. The student is expected to research and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using coal, oil, natural gas, nuclear power, biomass, wind, hydropower, geothermal, and solar resources.

Science Standards - TEKS: 6.7(A) research and discuss advantages and disadvantages of using coal, oil, natural gas, nuclear power, biomass, wind, hydropower, geothermal and solar resources.

ATL/SEL Skills: These are known as 'Approaches to Learning" skills (ATL). These are more commonly known as SEL or social and emotional skills. ATL Skills for this lesson: Research - Make connections between various sources of information.

Lesson Structure and Teacher Tips: This lesson is meant to be covered for several class periods. Students have been given research questions and appropriate links to research the advantages and disadvantages to energy resources. Students will work together to research and create a presentation about an energy resource.

What's included:
Slide presentation " Includes lesson on energy resources, generation, grids, consumption, student research & teacher resources. (45 slides)
Student research pages " Includes instructions, structure and research pages to support students. (4 pages)
