This end of year research project allows high school biology students to investigate genetics while reflecting on content from the entire year! Low prep but high return, this cumulative, critical-thinking resource is the perfect student presentation or extra credit assignment to end your gene expression unit and the school year!

The End of Year Research Project is best suited for students in either Biology or Honors Biology who have recently learned about the principles of genetics and gene expression. While it is designed for high school students, it could also be a good fit for advanced middle school students learning similar concepts.
What Does This Assignment Entail and Is Included in The Product?
This assignment is a critical thinking research task in which students collaboratively or independently investigate chosen genetic traits. Their goal is to determine what is known about the inheritance and expression on their chosen trait (e.g., gene locus, mutation type, inheritance pattern, etc.) and then to explain that information in depth using content from at least one other unit from the school year. To demonstrate their learning, students deliver an oral presentation with an accompanying tri-fold display.
