Description
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with this interactive scavenger hunt, designed to highlight the many contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to our nation. Students will read short passages and answer questions to reveal a secret code and discover a 4-digit number. Students will be inspired as they explore the lives and achievements of ten influential figures who have made contributions in art, science, politics, and more.
No prior knowledge is needed, making this an excellent starting point for exploring the impact and lasting legacy of Hispanic Americans.
What's Included:
PreScavenger Hunt Activity: Determine what students now before they begin the hunt by asking students to complete the true/false statements included. At the end of the activity, students return to this page to find out if what they thought they knew was correct. A place to spark a class discussion.
10 Short Reading Passages: Each passage focuses on one particular aspect of the overall topic
10 Code Word Questions: Students answer questions from the readings to discover the code word they will write on their answer sheet.

How It Works:
Students start at any reading card which you've posted around the room. Each card contains a short passage followed by a question that when answered reveals a code word. This code word then directs students to the next card in a sequence unknown to them, requiring multiple interactions with the text to decode the mystery. Students can start at any card which allows your entire class to hunting at the same time. The challenge culminates in deciphering a final mystery word and 4-digit code, promoting critical thinking and retention of information.
Why It's Effective:
Multiple Interactions with Text: Students engage with the reading material several times, improving comprehension and retention.
Easy Prep and Setup: Hand the reading cards around the room and print out student recording sheet for each student or group
Collaborative or Individual Task: Suitable for pair work or solo adventures, accommodating different learning styles and classroom dynamics.
