Many students possess cell phones and engage in text messages with family, friends, and classmates EVERY DAY! This fun, engaging, realistic, and highly relevant resource will provide your students opportunities to practice social skills in the most relevant way!
SET ONE:
This text messaging themed resource contains 20 text messages (without guided background information) that will challenge your students to respond appropriately to real life circumstances. This set, because it doesn't include guided background information, allows students to make inferences about the sender's feelings and perspectives, and respond appropriately.
SET TWO:
In addition, there are 20 same text message worksheets with guided background information that provides insight of the situation, particularly both the sender's and receiver's feelings, perspectives, and past experiences. Students will have a clearer understanding of the entire situation and respond appropriately and accordingly. These texts can elicit different responses based on context. (Excellent for Lower-Level Students)
☆ Text messages even include emojis to increase relevance!
☆ This is a differentiated resource as students of all levels can engage in these activities - SO MUCH FUN!
☆ Great for morning work, enrichment, practice, assessment, literacy centers, counseling, etc.
An additional activity students can engage in using these text messaging scenarios:
Role-Playing: Students can collaborate in pairs to act out a variety of scenarios and demonstrate appropriate responses. They can pretend these conversations are happening face-to-face! Role-playing activities can also be used to show how skills are used improperly and then asking the 'audience' to help reenact properly. This activity can ultimately improve confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills.
