Description
A five day mini unit that goes great during October or the Halloween season. In this unit, students are asked to analyze a short story about being trapped in a haunted house, brainstorm and draft an escape plan based on details in the story, peer review and revise their plans, before presenting their escape plans to the class and finishing the story.
The unit includes a unit plan and 5 lesson plans but can be modified for a longer period of time based on your classroom needs. Originally planned for 9th grade, it can easily be modified for surrounding grades. Also included are all worksheets, a PowerPoint for the week, graphic organizers and all supplementary materials needed to complete the unit. Accomodations are considered for ESL and SPED in the lessons, but may need to be adapted based on your class' needs. The unit uses the ELA CCSS.
