Reading Passage Overview/Summaries

❤️ "The Things That Matter"
This reading passage examines the short story of a teen boy who desires to be TikTok famous. Through this text, students will assess the sacrifices the teen makes in pursuit of popularity while also investigating the influence TikTok has on the teen's perception of self.

❤️ "An Alter Ego"
This reading passage examines the short story of a boy attempting to unearth whether or not his girlfriend is cheating on him. Through the creation of a fake TikTok account, the boy tests his girlfriend's loyalty. Students will evaluate the morality of his actions by analyzing the boy's emotions and the outcome of the situation.

❤️ "Cameras and Mirrors"
This reading passage examines the short story of an insecure teenager as she films a TikTok video with her friend. Students will explore the importance of consent by analyzing the effects on the narrator when the video is posted without her permission.

❤️ "The Scapegoat"
This reading passage examines the short story of a boy who participates in a TikTok challenge against his better instincts. Students will explore how peer pressure influences the boy's decisions and analyze the consequences he faces for breaking the rules.

❤️ "Chicken Pie"
This reading passage examines a short story following a TikTok comment outburst after an insensitive comment is made about a girl's weight. Students will study the nature and effects of negative comments while contrasting the mindsets of those who participated in the exchange.
