Description

This set of 2 Halloween-themed math worksheets gives students practice with word problems while they wait for Halloween!

Students use mostly addition, some subtraction, and their critical thinking skills as they solve these word problems. There are 7 problems on each worksheet.

So that you can determine if these worksheets are the right level for your students at this point in the year, I am listing the problems here:

Worksheet #1:

Lisa and her two sisters went trick-or-treating with their friends Evan and Brian. How many kids were in their group?
James invited 14 friends to his party, but 4 of the kids could not attend. How many friends came to James' party?
Emily had 12 lemon candies. She gave 5 to her brother. How many did Emily have left?
Donna and her friends Karen and Alice dressed as cheerleaders. Sam and his brother Max dressed as pirates. How many of them dressed as cheerleaders?
Gina carved two pumpkins, Dana carved four pumpkins, and Lisa carved three pumpkins. How many jack-o-lanterns did they make in all?
Evan's mother put three pumpkins on the porch and five pumpkins by the window. How many pumpkins did she use in all?
Dan and his friends had a pet parade on Halloween. There were four dogs, three cats, two birds, and five goldfish. How many pets were in the parade?

Worksheet #2:

Alan walked three blocks to Alex's house, and then they walked eight blocks together to trick-or-treat. Later, Alan's father picked Alan up from Alex's house in his car. How many blocks did Alan walk in all?
On Halloween night, Mark collected seven chocolate bars with nuts and six chocolate bars without nuts. Mark gave one of each type to his sister. How many chocolate bars did Mark keep for himself?
Jason and his friends trick-or-treated for an hour and then went to Sharon's party for two hours. How long did they stay out altogether before they went home?
Janet and her brother went to Meg's house to meet Meg and her three friends. They all went trick-or-treating together. How many kids were in their group?
Ann wanted to decorate her house with pumpkins for her party. She needed 15 pumpkins. If she already had six pumpkins, how many more did she need to buy?
Laura made her own costume. She worked on it for two hours on Monday and Tuesday, and one hour on Wednesday and Thursday. How many hours did it take Laura to make her costume?
Tom, Aaron and Kevin all got together at Tom's house to carve their pumpkins. Tom's sister Maria carved one too. How many pumpkins did they carve at Tom's house?

These worksheets were designed for the Grade 1-2 level and support CCSS standards.
