As a primary teacher, I teach so many social studies and science concepts through picture books. As I continue learning the best ways to create a classroom rooted in anti-bias and anti-racist practices, I want to use picture books that reflect my students' worlds and that expose them to cultures and figures they otherwise may not see in their own communities. It is also SO important for kids to see faces like their own in all kinds of stories, especially if those faces are usually only reflected in limiting historical books about oppression.
