Description
Get students engaged with informative writing by having them research and report about various animals that reside in certain habitats. Students will research information about different animals that all live in the same habitats and then will record their findings on various note catchers/graphic organizers. Students will then edit their notes and compile them into a book on a certain habitat that they researched. Students can pick between many different habitats, and can do their research online on National Geographic Kids or can use books that you check out from the library.
This writing project can be spanned across an entire month, or is easily modified to be a one week activity. The project includes planning, drafting, editing, publishing and rubric pages that are all aligned with the common core. Teachers can decide how many animals students will report on, and can modify student publishing pages accordingly. There are photo examples of each page that can be replicated or printed as an example for your students. I also include a teaching guide for how I would use and pace this resource in my own classroom.
