Description

This unit has absolutely everything you need to teach a middle school fiction unit using book clubs. Simply attach to your Google Classroom™ or digital learning platform and you will have all the mini lessons and discussion questions for your reading workshop. The bulletin board has matching pieces for the mini lessons to give students a visual when doing notetaking.

This all in one unit includes:

9 mini lessons with coordinating bulletin board pieces; add the bulletin board pieces one at a time (I recommend adding after you teach the mini lesson)
a mentor text for teaching skills
5 sets of discussion questions for groups to use based on the mini lessons
5 separate entries for students to record text evidence based on their books that match up with the mini lessons
A culminating project ( 'one pager") for students to share out their books
Here is what I recommend:

Set up your students in book clubs with fiction books. I recommend letting them choose their books and groups when possible.
Plug in the dates on slides 3, 4, and 8. Make a copy for each student on your Google Classroom™.
Students will create a reading plan for their books on slide 8. They should discuss this as a group and decide on their reading plan. Remind them NOT to read ahead!
I gave you a 'forced copy" of the items with links. Simply click on my link, create your own copy, and replace my link with a new link to your copy. You are welcome to skip this step; if you do, students will have to create their own copy (it's simple; when you click, it asks if you would like to make a copy, so you click the button that says 'make a copy"...it's foolproof!).
Lesson links are 'mini lessons", which means they should last about 10-15 minutes. Remember, the goal of a reading workshop is to get the kids actually reading! Use the bulletin board pieces along with the mini lessons so kids can refer to them.
During discussion days, students should have read up to a certain point. They then spend time discussing in groups, using the questions as a guide. I remind students to really discuss, not just a quick answer.
For the 'one pager", I recommend attaching page one to your Google Classroom and printing page 2. These are great for bulletin boards!

Any questions, feel free to email me at [email protected].

I would truly appreciate your feedback with a rating and review. It helps me when making future products.

Enjoy!
