Description
Make independent reading time fun and engaging with this reading and writing activity! In my classroom, I typically ask students to read 20 minutes per night. I used to give students a reading log to complete nightly or weekly but found them to be a bit monotonous. I was not able to truly see if students were reading nightly and how they were applying concepts that we have been learning in our reading and writing classes to their own independent reading or writing time.
Because of Letter to the Teacher, students can:
● Share what they are reading with the teacher
● Develop better writing skills
● Make connections between what was taught in class to what they are reading (no matter the book or concept).
● Work on dictionary and thesaurus skills
● Create reading and writing goals
● And develop a passion for reading, a love for writing, and a joy for sharing what they are reading!
Here's what you'll get:
✅ An All About L.T.T.
✅ A How to Use This Resource
✅ A Letter to the Teacher Example
✅ A Letter to the Teacher Rubric Example
✅ A Letter to the Teacher EDITABLE Rubric
✅ (11) Letter to the Teacher Lined Paper templates (front and back) for Lower Elementary Students
✅ (6) Letter to the Teacher Lined Paper templates (front and back) for Upper Elementary Students
LETTER TO THE TEACHER HAS SOLVED THE PROBLEM!
This product works well with in-class reading and writing as well as with reading or writing homework.
Because students are required to read 20 minutes per night, they should have plenty to write about on the book that they are currently reading.
As a whole class, we go over the rubric thoroughly.
Prep is quick and easy! Each student receives a rubric and letter example to keep in their binder. I place an example on our classroom website as well as a large L.T.T. poster example in the classroom for quick reference.
In my classroom, LTT is due at the end of each full week, but you can change this to meet your class's exact needs. You can also change the rubric to fit your exact student and classroom needs.
Happy reading and writing!
