Description
Students will use the engaging sentence starters to complete a fictional narrative story. Students must write at least 5 additional sentences. They are to include 4 transition words (or sequencing words), 3 adjectives, 2 adverbs, and 1 onomatopoeia. They are encouraged to go above and beyond. More sentences! More transition words! Finish the Story 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 is designed to support students in the creative writing process. All the story prompts in this resource follow the narrative story structure. The 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 format works as a sort of checklist for students. This will encourage them to add details and be clever with their stories, while still giving them support. Students can always use more words, the ones provided are to set a minimum standard and can be adjusted based on student skill level. Some students will find that the words being provided makes it easier for them to think of content to write, while others will find it more challenging to have to use words provided. This resource will give you a lot of insight into the types of writers you have in your class. It will foster creativity and hopefully make writing more fun and engaging.
All the sentence starters are written with upper elementary students in mind but can easily be applied to almost any grade level with minor adjustments. It is also a great resource for early finishers or for substitute lesson plans.
