Students are required to write an introduction to an incomplete narrative text. The format was designed to promote proficiency on standardized tests and to facilitate independent writing. Included are detailed teacher directions, three incomplete narratives with "Before You Write" activities, answer keys and a writing checklist. The students are directed to read the incomplete narrative, identify the setting, characters, and the actions the characters take that serve to solve a problem. Students then brainstorm ideas about what the problem could be and write an introduction. This is a highly engaging activity that promotes creative thought.
