Description

Are you looking for a project based learning opportunity that can be modified or adapted to your learning objectives? What about a resource that will incorporate cross-curricular skills and technology? You have stumbled across just that resource!

This project was originally created to be used with a non-fiction book club format for my students in 4th grade. However, it is so versatile and can be modified to cover just about any research topic or format you need it to! I created this project for my own class so I have field tested it for you.

This editable digital presentation will walk your students through the project overview and includes embedded student roles and tools as well as an example website for you to use! Students will utilize Google Sites to create their website with your guidance (please note: Google Sites does not have a function to allow me to share the template website I created for my students in a "forced copy" so I have included a link to the template website and a link for how to use Google Sites so you can create your own template to use for your students if you choose to make a template for them. It is pretty quick and user intuitive!).

Ways you can use this presentation:

As it was originally written for - a Book Club Research Project. I created this project for my own class to complete a Black History Month research project. Students worked in groups to pick a notable African American of their choice and read a biography about that person in a book club style. They read the biography and then used it along with additional resources to conduct research about their chosen subject. Finally, they published their research on their website via Google Site. I provided my students a template that I shared with them to have the basic structure already created.

Use a fiction novel or other reading selection to continue the book club format, but have the research project modified to publish summaries, character analysis, plot elements, etc. via your chosen website template.

Conduct research over a wide variety of topics from civilizations and cultures to animals and ecosystems to states and countries and have your students publish that research via a website.

I hope you enjoy this versatile project with your students!
