Description

This is a non-fiction passage and assessment on the inspirational and heroic life of Anne Frank (1929-1945). A German Jew forced into hiding along with her family for over two years during World War II, Anne's courage in the face of constant fear and her talent for writing led to the eventual publication of The Diary of Anne Frank after her death and the end of the war. This is the story of Anne's short life, a review of her character, and a look at some of the insights and observations she included in her diary.

This resource was written for Grade 5-8 students and can be used in a number of ways by teachers (close reading, direct instruction in class, independent practice, homework, test prep, assessment, sub work, centers, etc).

This resource includes:

1) An interesting and informative 950-word passage titled 'Anne Frank: Holocaust Hero". The passage is at a middle school reading level and tells of Anne's short life and experience hiding in the 'Secret Annex" during World War II.

2) A set of 29 questions, including vocabulary, comprehension, and a short written task. Questions can only be answered by a careful first reading and close re-reading of the passage and were created to align with Common Core Informational Text Standards RI.3.8, RI.4.5, RI.5.4, and RI.6.5

3) An additional crossword puzzle for your early finishers or to use as another form of assessment

4) Answers to every question.
