Praying the Stations of the Cross is a Lenten tradition that helps us reflect upon the story of the Passion of Christ. Adult versions of the Stations of the Cross may be difficult for kids to understand.
Each of these 15 kid-friendly stations includes:
1. An explanation of the events of that station.
2. A scripture verse that goes with the event,
3. A paragraph or two that associates the event with their own lives
4. Leading questions that guide students to make a personal connection
Depending on your situation you can either print, assign via google classroom, or share as a google link. You can use these in a variety of ways. Sometimes we do these as a whole class activity, a few stations at a time. Other times I have assigned them digitally for them to do a few each day on their own. We read and discuss the first part and then the students complete the reflections independently. The last day we are together before Easter, we read all the stations with different students volunteering to read a station and share their reflections. You can also project the slides for the class and copy only the meditation slides for each student. Other teachers have simply projected the slides (one a day) and had the students draw a picture and do a reflection in their religion notebooks. It is very flexible!
These are easily adaptable to grades 3-8. The discussion questions lead kids to make connections at their own level. You will use this year after year!
