Description
This creative writing resource encourages using short but well-formatted
descriptive vignettes to teach the literary devices, parallelism and epigraph. These techniques, once mastered, are easily transferred to more complex formats.
The mentor passage, "Writing a Vignette about Nature," provides a model for students. Upon completion, they will understand how to:
format a vignette,
use an epigraph to introduce the theme,
use parallelism to elevate their writing, and
reflect on some aspects of nature.

The moon's glow revealed the creature's slightest twitch as it soared through the heavens. With one wing lowered, its compact body inched downward. Then, like magic, it disappeared through the barn's hayloft window. Inside the faded red structure, the scent of dusty corn cobs and aging chicken mash awaited. Perched high in the rafters, neither daddy longlegs nor itch mites would interrupt the bird's well-earned rest.
